Friends of 904WARD,

We're writing to share an important update about 904WARD's future. A decade ago, 904WARD was born when volunteers across Jacksonville got together to build bridges and organize with a mission to end racism so that every member of our community can thrive. Thanks to you, thousands of people across our community have learned together, grieved together, advocated together, and yes, found so many moments of joy together.

This organization 904WARD has achieved so much thanks to the time, talent and treasure of so many incredible volunteers and supporters. Yet in this climate of economic uncertainty and political retribution, 904WARD — like many organizations — faces significant headwinds in the funding landscape as support for racial equity work is greatly diminished.

To ensure that the movement remains sustainable and strong, we are transitioning the organization back to its volunteer-led roots, building on the strong foundation that our volunteer community has already created. As you can imagine, this was an emotional and difficult decision. We are deeply grateful to the staff members for their leadership and dedication.

We anticipate that the transition will be fully complete by  October 31, 2025. Currently scheduled public events will go on as planned, the Jacksonville Community Remembrance Project will carry on its work, and essential operations including volunteer coordination will continue.  Some programs will pause temporarily as we adjust to this new structure. The board will spend the next few months assessing capacity. If you have questions about a specific program or initiative, reply to this message or email together@904ward.org.

A new approach to our programming will commence in January 2026 as we emerge a stronger and more resilient organization, ready to meet the mission of 904WARD with commitment, care and courage.

This is a significant change, but our steadfast commitment to ending racism in Jacksonville remains unwavering. This work is needed now more than ever — and it needs your support now more than ever.

We'll share more details in the coming weeks about how you can stay involved and support 904WARD's work. In the meantime, you are invited to help us continue this work in two ways:

  1. Register as a volunteer and help us continue to engage the Jacksonville community through our various activities.

  2. Make a donation to support the ongoing work of 904WARD. If you can, please make a recurring commitment to ensure this work continues over the long-term.

Whatever it looks like, whatever it takes, we will keep walking this path — together. Thank you for being part of this movement.

Respectfully,

The 904WARD Board of Directors
